This world history, which began in Sarajevo on 28 June 1914 with the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand, came to an end on 9 November 1989 in Berlin with the « fall of the Wall ».
Between these two dates, between these two world wars, nearly 60 million people will disappear; the political regimes most hostile to the essential principles of respect for life will carry the world into the chaos and brutality of the last century.
We are all heirs to this century, whose memory must at all costs be preserved intact and history must be written unceasingly. Memory of the martyrs, memory of ideas, memory of sacrifices to save man from the « inhumanity of man for man ». This is the Memorial Museum.
